First Act Farnham
About First Act
First Act is a weekly term-time class for children aged 8-10 at the Tilford Institute. It aims to introduce children to theatrical ideas, and get them used to speaking and improvising in public. In the Summer term, the children put on a play, which they have written themselves under Ruth's tutelage, to family and friends at the Summer show.
About Second Act
Over the years a number of Ruth's students have gone on to take part in local theatre productions and quite a few have become professional. Through Ruth's contacts with local theatres, Second Act students have taken part in The Last Resort by Chris Owen at Churt, and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian and A Christmas Carol by John Mortimer, all at Tilford.
Of course, not all her students want to pursue a theatrical career, but they all enjoy the benefits of enhanced personal presence and self esteem and the valuable experience of great team work. Drama has many important life lessons for youngsters in this technological age. What stands out about Ruth’s clubs is that they are fully focussed on the individual personal and character development of young people. They are absolutely not about churning out stage school carbon copies. They are a safe space for young people from all walks of life, preferences and backgrounds; welcoming and inclusive.
About Ruth
Ruth Ahmed has been teaching drama classes at local secondary schools, Weydon and Woolmer Hill, for many years. She is an inspirational drama teacher and acting coach.​

She has been growing the confidence and creativity of youngsters at her weekly classes for children, First Act and Second Act, for the past 21 years.

Ruth is also well known for her imaginative productions at a number of local community theatres, including Tilford, Churt, Haslemere and Grayshott.
